QUEENSDAY
April 30.
Actually being the birthday of the Queen Mother, Juliana (1909-2004), Beatrix, Queen of the Netherlands, kept her mother's birthday as the official
celibration for her birthday. April 30 therefor stayed a national holiday.
If April 30 is a Sunday, Queensday is celebrated the day before.

On Queensday, the entire local population walks out partying in all the streets (or should we say drinking).
It's also the day that people sell old stuff from their atticks etc on the streets, resulting in some kind of street fair.
This day, her majesty always visits one or more cities.
Untill 1998, one needed to be married and (as a men) being with ones wife in order to be abe to be invited. After some discussion, on official banquets, parties and celebrations, one can now bring his (or her) partner, regardless of sexual orientation or sexual preference. The royal family however, like in the UK, is not known for it's gay-friendlyness.
Orange is the color of the Royal Family. Therefor you find lots of orange accents anywhere during this day.
Like gay pride, Queensday brings out all the people on the streets, and people from all over the country are coming to Amsterdam.
In the gay areas this results in a kind of gay pride. Don't forget the night before Queensday!
